St. Crispins Cafe
There are days in everyone’s life when eggs over easy in the afternoon are, well, simply a necessity. And some days, a burger and fries for breakky is practically the elixir of life. All day dining can be a bit of a unicorn around these parts if you don’t know where to look, however fear not North Queenslanders! Welcome to St. Crispins Café, Port Douglas’ newest hot spot coffee and dining den. This off-the-beaten-track, stunning location formerly known as Choo Choo’s Café, has rebranded itself as St. Crispins Café with new ownership and has a menu that has tongues wagging and tastebuds salivating.
To start, you’ll find the classics, of course – Eggs a la Benny or the Smoothie Bowl; but for those who want a little something more, there’s the Southern Fried Chicken Burger and the Philly Cheesesteak. Those healthy types that have been pounding the Four Mile pavements just off the beach are well taken care of with the Breakky Salad Filled With Goodness, and for the hard-core sweet fiends, one simply cannot overlook the Salted Caramel Waffles. Kids aren’t forgotten with mini versions of the café classics along with some epic mega shakes that’ll turn your mini-mes into mega-mes!
Did we mention they’re licenced? So, if a Pink Lady or a Blue Lagoon should take your fancy over lunch (or a mimosa over your eggs and bacon), the team here have got you well sorted. Coffee is a dream using Locale beans (a nod to the owner’s Melbournian roots) and locally sourced milk from Mungalli Creek Dairy on the Atherton Tablelands. And again, making sure no one is left thirsty, locally made kombucha by Port Douglas fermenting superstar The Kefir Queen makes a healthy appearance.
Keep your eyes peeled for a couple of friendly(ish) long-term residents – Crispy and Chip, the two baby saltwater crocodiles that live in the golf course lagoon over which the café is situated. They’re friendly enough to make an appearance now and then, delighting guests in their mostly natural habitat… but probably not enough to pat (in case you were wondering!).
The new vibe at surely the prettiest spot in town is one not to miss. With coffee and cocktails on point, snacks to fill all kinds of desires and a team to make you feel like you’ve found your home away from home (except with a swoon-worthy garden party décor that would make a Beautiful Homes & Gardens editor weep), we’ll be setting up camp here, thanks.
